FoodFusion
A full-stack, server-rendered culinary platform engineered purely with PHP and MySQL.
- PHP
- MySQL
- JavaScript
While modern JavaScript frameworks are powerful, I wanted to build a comprehensive system from scratch without abstracting the logic behind tools like React or Laravel. FoodFusion is a return to core web fundamentals.
The Architecture: Pure Server-Side Rendering
FoodFusion is built entirely on a pure PHP architecture. It handles routing, business logic, user authentication, and dynamic HTML generation directly on the server. The data layer is powered by a relational MySQL database, ensuring strict data integrity for recipes, users, and reviews.
The Crucible: Security & Data Flow
When you don't use a framework, you are entirely responsible for your own security. The biggest technical challenge was engineering a secure data pipeline.
I had to manually implement session management and secure the database against vulnerabilities.
By strictly enforcing PDO prepared statements, sanitizing all user inputs against XSS, and managing secure HTTP-only cookies for sessions, I ensured the application is robust and production-safe.
The Outcome
FoodFusion is a fast, lightweight, and highly secure web application. Building this solidified my fundamental understanding of the HTTP request lifecycle, server-side data flow, and raw relational database management.
